How to Have Hope in Hard Times

17 When the fig tree does not bud, and there are no grapes on the vines; when the olive trees do not produce, and the fields yield no crops; when the sheep disappear from the pen, and there are no cattle in the stalls, 18 I will rejoice because of the LORD; I will be happy because of the God who delivers me! 19 The sovereign LORD is my source of strength. He gives me the agility of a deer; he enables me to negotiate the rugged terrain.  [Hab 3:17-19 NET]

To have hope when things are going well is not so hard because we can just project the present time that is good to the future.   It becomes hard to have hope when our present life is filled with loss, sadness, struggle, and pain.  For when we are suffering we have a tendency to project that struggle to the future and therefore to feel hopeless.

So how can one have hope when today is very hard and difficult.  Yet, at such times having hope can be vital.   Hope at such times can give us the strength to endure during the most difficult time.  Lack of hope can make it harder to get through.

Dr. Norman Wise has practical tools that can be used to seek to find hope in horrible times.
